Throwback: Dakar 2016

The 2016 Dakar Rally was the 37th edition of the event and the eighth successive year that the event was held in South America. The event started in Buenos Aires, Argentina on January 2, then ran through Argentina and Bolivia.

This year, the course took all categories―Bikes, Quads, Cars, and Trucks―through Bolivia for the first time, then back to the finish line in Argentina on January 16 after a period of two weeks.

Competition kicked off on January 3, taking contestants northward on vast tracts of land along the foothills of the Andes before finally reaching the finish line in Rosario, Argentina on January 16.

Featuring a vast array of natural obstacles ranging from high-speed segments in Argentina to high-altitude conditions in the 3500m+ highlands of Bolivia as well as mountain trails of the Andes, this rally has been another challenging trial for both man and machine.

Amateur riders who cannot count on personal technical backup, are once again in the limelight thanks to the now traditional Elf Moto Trophy, which, since its launch in 2003, has become an integral part of the event. The concept: in return for their undertaking to carry the Elf colours, the participants benefit from multiple advantages.

In every bivouac they can get advice and help in our technical zone where a team puts tools, accessories and a full range of products specially adapted to the rally conditions at their disposal.
